Buffalo Color Site Redevelopment

The redevelopment of the former Buffalo Color site involves demolition of nearly all of the former chemical plant. Major buildings such as the Boiler House may be reused. Site preparation began in late April. Demolition began in June 2009.

Beginning the week of February 15, 2010, South Buffalo Development began bringing clean soil to the former Buffalo Color site. Some of the clean fill will be used immediately; some of it will be used at a later date.

The site will be remediated to government environmental standards. SBD will redevelop the site for commercial and light industrial use.

The redevelopment project includes:

  • removing waste materials and any residual chemicals remaining in tanks, piping and equipment
  • demolishing existing buildings
  • remediating contaminated soils and groundwater
  • addressing sewer systems
  • disposing of all hazardous materials removed at an approved offsite facility
  • providing soil vapor protection systems in new buildings on site

Demolition activities will take approximately 12 months to complete. The anticipated demolition schedule is shown below.
